Hishimonoides phycitis (Distant 1908g: 363 )
Biology & Ecology
Unknown. In 1939, Thomas and Krishnaswami (784) found abundant populations in brinjal fields in Coimbatore, India (Nielson, 1968)
Classification
Worldwide Distribution
It is known only from India. (Nielson, 1968)
Vector Status
Economic Crops
This species is a vector of little leaf virus of brinjal (eggplant). Thomas and Krishnaswami (784) were first to report transmission of this virus in 1939 by a species determined as 'Eutettix phycitis Distant.” Transmission was effected to 14 of 27 healthy brinjal plants (Solanum melongena L.) after feeding on diseased plants for 24 hours and healthy plants for 6 days. Host range of the virus included Datura fastuosa L., tomato, tobacco, and wild brinjal (S. xanthocarpum Schrad. & Wendl. and S. trilobatum L.), all infected by raft transmission.(Nielson 1968)The importance of this species in the natural spread of this virus is uncertain.(Nielson 1968)
